Lustrum IV
By Promo Comittee | 2026
From September 4 through 9, Wine Association Dionysus was all about Lustrum IV! For an entire week, we celebrated the association and everything that makes DIO special: friendship, connection, memories, and of course, plenty of wine. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of Dionysus’s 20-year journey!
The lustrum kicked off on Friday with the Grand Opening, where we raised a glass to the start of a special week. This was followed by a special moment in which we had the honor of hammering in no fewer than six new honorary members. Each of them has contributed to the association in a special way, in their own unique manner. That’s why Rick Nijssen, Thom Goris, Mirthe Brummelman, Femke Adema, Jason Geilvoet, and Jelle van den Aakster have been named honorary members of Dionysus! Together with Maximilian Eisenbart, who was named the first honorary member last year, Dionysus now has seven honorary members.
Afterwards, it was time for a tasting of Dutch wines in the wine room, which an alumni aptly described as “just like the old days.”
Finally, we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Restaurant Wannee, where lively conversations took place between former and current members. And just as it should be with a Dionysus evening, some of us headed out on the town. Maybe it really did feel a bit like the old days, because “there ain’t no party like a Dionysus party!”
On Saturday, we headed to the water for the Summer Tasting. The name might have suggested a bit more sunshine than there actually was, however, packed up in thick sweaters, we cruised through downtown Leeuwarden. We tasted delicious wines, laughed, and caught up with each other. With a mixed group of Dio members, it turned out to be an incredibly successful evening despite the lack of sunshine. In the end, all you really need at Dio is wine and good company! We revisited memories from the any winetrips and were really one big family. Wheter we have been friends for many year, or if there were 10 years in between our memberships.
Sunday was our Gala, an essential part of this week, though some were so hungover from the night before that they stuck to just one glass of wine this time. For many, this festive evening was a great opportunity to catch up with (old) friends and reminisce.
The next morning (or rather, afternoon), we enjoyed a hangover picnic, a name that probably needs little explanation.
Leading up to Tuesday’s SOMP (Start of the Module Party), where we had a Dionysus TV night. On Wednesday, we wrapped up the week with an anniversary reception, where we toasted our 20th anniversary alongside other student associations!
It was a week full of wonderful moments, all featuring the same ingredients: good company, wine, and lots of memories. For current members, it was fun to hear stories from Dio’s earlier days, while former members hopefully recognized that familiar feeling from their own studentdays every now and then. We look back with great pleasure on a wonderful anniversary week and are incredibly happy that so many alumni
were there to celebrate this milestone with us!
